Summary
Help build reliable CloudKit-backed infrastructure for secure, privacy-minded product experiences across Apple platforms.
Description
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer role is a part-time engineering internship focused on the cloud services foundation behind clickclick. You will contribute to CloudKit-backed features that help the product stay responsive, reliable, and consistent across devices while preserving user privacy.
You will work with engineers on data modeling, synchronization behavior, event-driven workflows, diagnostics, and recovery paths. This is infrastructure work for Apple platforms, with mentorship and a clear project scope tied to practical reliability improvements.
Responsibilities
- Build and test CloudKit-backed data flows for product features that need secure state, delivery, and recovery behavior.
- Improve model design, indexing assumptions, synchronization paths, and background update handling.
- Help make cloud-backed features resilient to network changes, account state, stale data, retries, and partial failures.
- Add diagnostics, fixtures, and automated tests that make infrastructure behavior easier to validate and debug.
- Collaborate with application engineers to integrate cloud infrastructure into user-facing workflows without exposing implementation complexity.
- Document operational assumptions, failure modes, and debugging practices for the engineering team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current student pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science, software engineering, distributed systems, data systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- At the end of the internship, must return to school to continue education or use the internship as the final graduation requirement.
- Experience writing Swift and building Apple-platform projects.
- Basic understanding of CloudKit, client-server APIs, distributed systems, persistence, or event-driven data models.
- Careful debugging habits, clear written communication, and the ability to reason about ordering, idempotency, and failure recovery.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building CloudKit-backed projects with async/await, actors, Codable, and XCTest.
- Hands-on experience with CloudKit records, queries, subscriptions, zones, assets, or CloudKit Dashboard.
- Experience with protocol-oriented design, test doubles, automated validation, or service diagnostics.
- Interest in privacy-aware cloud services, Apple platform infrastructure, AI-assisted workflows, or productivity software.
- Ability to turn ambiguous infrastructure behavior into focused tests, documentation, and operational guidance.
Pay & Benefits
This internship is paid at an expected rate of $28 to $36 per hour, depending on experience. This posting represents ongoing interest in CloudKit internship work rather than a single seat, and resume submissions may be reviewed as matching projects open. Benefits include paid sick time, flexible scheduling around school commitments, mentorship from senior engineers, and access to the hardware, developer accounts, and CloudKit environments needed for the role.
